Our Programs
Automotive Technology
The Automotive Technology Program is an Introduction to four areas of the automotive service industry. The program provides training and experience in the theory, operation, diagnosis and repair of automotive systems.
Building Trades
Building Trades prepares students for careers in general construction. The projects students participate in are governed by the community as well as industrial trends and needs. Students will learn a basic background in the principals and skills of general carpentry by constructing a five piece modular home.
Business and Leadership Studies
The Business and Leadership Studies program provides students the opportunity to learn and practice skills needed to organize and manage a business. They examine theory and explore practical application of day-to-day management, promotion and legal concerns. Students will use technology to develop business processes, build and analyze strategy, and explore ethical best practices in the changing world of business.
Cosmetology
Students with an interest in becoming a licensed Cosmetologist upon graduation from high school should enroll in this program. Upon the completion of this two year, 1500 hour program students will be able to take the State of Vermont Licensing Exam.
Culinary Arts
This program is designed to provide the basic skills needed for employment in the Hospitality and Culinary Arts Industry. Students will learn critical and relevant aspects of this industry and will learn the skills necessary to be employed in restaurants and resorts, or continue on to post-secondary education.
Much of their training is provided through volunteer work at the Vermont Food Bank and the operation of the onsite Green Room.
Digital Media Arts
The Digital Media program embraces the digital technologies that surround our lives: video, animation, motion graphics, web sites, and graphic design for print and interactive media. Digital Media surrounds us, in constant flux. BTC’s interactive program lays a foundation for the students who want to be the pioneers for the next generation of the digital world.
Residential Electrical Technology
The Electrical Program trains future electricians to install, connect, test, and maintain electrical systems for a variety of purposes, including climate control, security, and communications. Students will learn how to install and maintain the electronic controls for machines in business and industry.
Medical Services
This program allows students to explore many careers within the health care field. Academic theory combines with hands-on learning in the classroom lab, and later in an actual practice setting, for a realistic approach to the health care arena. Some of the topics covered include human structure and function (anatomy and physiology), personal care and hygiene, communication skills, basic metric conversions, nutrition and medical terminology. To enroll in this program, students must be able to lift 50 lbs. and have had a physical examination within 3 months of entering the program.
Plumbing and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Students in this program receive training for careers as technicians in the field of climate control. Students will learn how to install, service, and repair environmental systems that control temperature, humidity, and air quality.
Human Services
This program prepares students for employment in careers that relate to families and human needs including education, counseling and mental health services, family and financial planning, as well as personal care services. Students participating in this program will develop academic foundations, problem solving skills, workplace skills, citizenship, ethics, and leadership training.
Pre-Technical Exploratory
The Pre-Tech Exploratory (PTE) follows a Standards-based curriculum that emphasizes the development of critical thinking, reasoning, and problem solving. Students learn applied foundational skills designed to prepare them for success as they continue with school and enter the world of work..
Pre-Technical Outreach
The Pre-Tech Outreach program (PTO) is a unique program to our regional high schools and this technical center. Our Pre-Tech Outreach program has sites throughout the region where students join a 12 person outdoor work crew that participates in community projects and learns soft skills such as accountability, leadership, responsibility, teamwork, critical thinking— to name a few.
Cooperative Education
The Cooperative Education Program offers students the best opportunity to work directly in their career of choice. Non-wage and wage job placements are arranged in the community under the supervision of a licensed cooperative education instructor who works with the student, employer and the classroom instructor. Cooperative Education students must be enrolled in a Barre Technical Center program and must have the program instructor’s recommendation. Acceptance into the Co-op program is a privilege. Many placements lead to fill time employment after high school graduation or part time employment while attending college.
