In this three block class, students will learn foundational skills to prepare them to be successful in a technical program. The Pre-Technical Foundations experience at the Barre Technical Center has two pathways. You can choose to participate in a program that is located in-house at the Technical Center which will connect you directly with the Trades and Industry Programs (Automotive, Building Trades, Electrical, HVAC/Plumbing and Culinary). Another option for students beginning this Fall is the Pre-Technical Outreach Program or PTO. This is a unique program to our regional high schools and this technical center. The Barre Technical Center has partnered with its regional sending high schools and the VYCC (VT Youth Conservation Corps) to provide a well rounded experience for students in grades 9 and 10. This program has four sites (Harwood, U-32/Montpelier, Cabot/Twinfield and Barre) where students join a 12 person outdoor work crew that participates in community projects and learns soft skills such as accountability, leadership, responsibility, teamwork, critical thinking – to name a few. Each work crew is located at the sending high school and all students in the program continue to work toward credits they need to complete a successful freshmen and sophomore year. All projects are connected to the community, environment and the daily academic lessons. Each work crew is lead by two adult crew leaders. These Pre-Tech options are a great way to kick start your journey toward career and technical education. If you are interested in these Pre-Tech options, please see your guidance counselor for more information. Space is limited. An application and interview process is used for admission into these unique programs. Feel free to call Amy Lester, Guidance Coordinator at the Barre Technical Center (476-6237) for additional information.
