The Cooperative Education Program offers students the best opportunity to work directly in their career of choice. Non-wage and wage job placements are arranged in the community under the supervision of a licensed cooperative education instructor who works with the student, employer and the classroom instructor. Cooperative Education students must be enrolled in a Barre Technical Center program and must have the program instructor’s recommendation. Acceptance into the Co-op program is a privilege. Many placements lead to fill time employment after high school graduation or part time employment while attending college.

The Cooperative Education program is a support service to all of the technical programs. Students will keep a log, complete assignments and will meet with the employer and cooperative coordinator for regular evaluations on their work assignments. Attendance, workplace skills and student initiative are all important factors of student success in this program. Co-op Students will work 4 days and attend a required academic day each week at the Technical Center.

Cooperative Education prepares students for entry-level employment or post-secondary training or education. Each technical education program shall include work-based learning to expose students to the realities of the occupation for which they are preparing and the application of academic, workplace and occupational skills they are acquiring in the workplace.
