BTC Open House Success
October 26 the Barre Technical Center hosted yet another successful open house night! BTC Staff counted over 400 visiters in attendance! We had students from elementary school to high school ages attending, from both public and private schools. Parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends all had fun learning about BTC programs. The turnout was great!
The BTC Bake Shop and Green Room provided refreshments along with snacks, like peanutbutter fudge, cheesecake, and a bunch of different kinds of cookies. Attendees experienced live broadcasts, building demos, piping techniques, blood pressure checks, paraffin wax dips, fantasy make-up, and smoke/carbon-monoxide alarm demonstrations.
That night there was also a raffle to win prizes like gift certificates to restaurants and BTC gear. Tina Grant, Jeremiah Houle, Kate Sprout, Haley Kerrick, and Gregory Wabuh won prizes! And we raised more than $300 for the BTC scholarship fund. Barre Technical Center: Exploring Opportunities and Discovering Talents Click here to see video and pictures from Open House 2011.

Housemoving 2011
by Trevor Carroll
On October 18, 2011 the Building Trades crew got on the bus at 8:30 to go Duxbury. That is where last year’s house went. The house went to a flood victim. I thought it was awesome that last year’s house went to somebody who lost everything in the floods of Hurricane Irene. I thought it was cool that I got to help with setting it up. I helped bring wood up from the van. I thought it was fun being able to help out. We also got to see how excited the young couple’s children were to have a new house. Also I liked seeing the house section get lifted and put on the foundation. After the heavy lifting was done, they let the oldest kid run the crane. I think that Harvey’s Construction did a great job getting everything on the foundation. They also got everything squared up. I could see that the new owners were happy to have a new house. With bad things come good things. They lost a house in the flood and they got a new one. I could tell that they were all happy. Click here to see video of the house being moved.
